Space adventures blanket

This space themed blanket has quickly become the family go to blanket.  It has been on picnics, it’s a spaceship, pirate ship or flying carpet as the need arises.  It’s often pegged together to make a den.  It is not a blanket that is easy to miss – it’s a joyous splash of colour, whatever it is currently being used for. Read on for the simple crochet blanket pattern.

I used a mix of Paintbox DK and Stylecraft Special DK yarn, as that was what I had in my stash.   You could easily use entirely Stylecraft yarn by using the following colours (I used Paintbox Buttercup and Daffodil Yellow instead of Sunshine and Citron).

From top left: midnight, lobelia, lapis, denim, aster.  2nd row: silver, grey.  Bottom row from left: daffodil yellow (Paintbox yarn), buttercup (Paintbox yarn), spice, tomato, lipstick.

You will need 15 balls of Stylecraft Special DK in the following colours:

2 x lobelia            1 x midnight       1 x grey                1 x spice

2x denim             1 x aster               1 x lipstick            1 x sunshine

2x lapis                 1 x  silver             1 x tomato          1 x citron

Space adventure crochet blanket pattern details

I used a 4mm hook and followed the pattern for a Granny Stripe blanket from Attic 24.   I completed the blanket with the recommended border: Spot On Edging.  Please note that this is not my pattern.  I changed the colour palette, but you will need to follow the links above in order to make the blanket.  This shouldn’t be a hardship – they are very detailed photo tutorials.

The random(ish) stripe pattern that I used is given below.  I’ve also given an alternative (in brackets) in case you want to avoid a very strongly contrasting stripe.
