A big hello

Hello, I’m Hannah, the face behind Brambles and Bindweed.

I’ve been knitting, crocheting and sewing on and off for as long as I can remember.  A little bit creative, but daunted by a blank page, I like working within the constraints provided by the maths behind knitting and crochet. I especially like the puzzle of translating intricate patterns into knitted fabric. And, as a bonus, you get something both beautiful and practical at the end of the process.

For many years I’ve lectured in child language acquisition.  As a fully signed up linguistics geek, I’ve loved passing on my knowledge to the students.  Mentoring students on their own individual projects, is especially rewarding.  I bring these same skills and enthusiasm to my tech editing.  I love working with designers and never tire of the thrill of stumbling across a new technique or clever construction.

Other than being out in the wilds on top of a hill, I’m at my happiest when I’m busy, yarn in hand, sitting in the garden and listening to my two young boys playing.  I’d like to say that when I look up from the crafting that I survey a scene of horticultural perfection, with beautiful flowers and plump vegetables and fruit.  I do try hard, but mostly I am best at cultivating brambles and bindweed.
