I've been observing the yearly fight between the Green Man and Jack Frost these last few weeks. The Green Man is definitely stirring. Here, in our garden, the snowdrops and hellebores are already in flower. To celebrate the return of spring I have been developing a snowdrop in lace knitting.
After an extended break over Christmas and New Year, the first blog post of 2020 is about sewing. The boys wore these fleece lined trousers a lot over the holidays, and so I thought we could have a natter about them.
Several winters ago I knitted Monster his first scarf. Recently, as the weather has turned colder, Monster has been wearing his scarf again. Avidly watched by Menace. Seeing tantrums in my near future, I decided to preemptively knit one for Menace too.
I found myself with oddments left over from two Attic24 colour packs. The moorland pack, from knitting my Moorland Faroese Shawl and the coast pack, left over from making the blanket. Clearly there had to be a plan for using up the scraps, and the obvious choice was to make jumpers for Monster and Menace.
Halloween has never been a very big thing in our house. But October is often grey and rainy which means I have two young boys to entertain indoors. Last year we tried making some pom-pom spiders, which turned into a huge hit. They are quick and easy to make – especially if you prepare the pom-pom in advance for toddlers.
Recently I decided I wanted to knit some socks. I’ve never wanted to knit socks before. But it seemed like a perfect project. So many design decisions – top down or bottom up? Short row heel or something a bit more elaborate? What sort of toe? And, coming after a crochet blanket, it seemed a nice little project.
Hold on to your hats people! We are off on a space adventure! And our space ship of choice? A rocking chair of course! A chair that needs a space adventures crochet blanket.
Stitch markers are one of those things that you don't think you need, until you finally get some, and then you wonder how you ever managed without them. I decided that I needed to upgrade the paperclips I had been using into proper stitch markers - but rather than buy them, why not make my own from beads and jewellery findings?
