Drogo Summer Wrap

This light summer wrap has strong geometric lines contrasting with the soft curves of the cabling panel.
The wrap is laid out flat on a stone surface. A large central square with an intricate cabling pattern is flanked on each side by squares of decreasing size.
This wrap is perfect for dressing up or down, so grab your best frock and head off to that garden party! All squares in the Drogo summer wrap are constructed from the centre out.  The centre square is worked first in the round, then the side squares are worked in short rows.

The pattern is available on Ravelry and Payhip.

Additional Notes

Choosing a plied yarn for the Drogo summer wrap will help the cable stand tall. If you want to emphasize the cables and geometric shaping of the wrap, but are happy to compromise on drape, sock yarns may be worth a look too. Softer fibres will result in lots of drape, but flat cables.

You need colours which contrast sufficiently to show the cable, but also are of a similar depth of colour that they can merge together for the background in the central square.

Make it your own

Each square of this wrap is one fifth smaller than the preceding square.  If you want to make the wrap longer, you can do so by adding more squares.  The instructions for adding a fifth square are given below.

Fifth square

Slip 12 sts to working needle. Place marker on working needle.  Re-join MC yarn. Work rows 1-4 as for first square. Work in side square pattern for a further 20 rows. (80 sts) Cast off all sts, working the last two sts as k2tog-tbl. Break off yarn.
