Coburg hat

Whenever I am working in brioche, I tend to think about baking bread.  Whilst not a brioche loaf, the Coburg hat was inspired by a traditional loaf shape.  A Coburg loaf is slashed across the top before baking which creates a coloured star on the top.  This hat replicates the effect using syncopated brioche.

a brightly coloured rainbow striped hat is placed on a glass head. the hat has brioche stripes alternating between bright colours and black, and has a star design on the crown.
a woman is facing away from the camera, looking towards a leafy hedge. She is wearing a rainbow and black striped hat, with a large star on the crown.

Additional Notes

This Coburg hat is worked from the bottom-up in the round.  The pattern is available in 3 sizes (small, medium, and large).  In order for the hat to fit snuggly, there is negative ease built into the pattern.  This means that the finished size is smaller than the size of head it will fit. Please take this into account when choosing which size to knit.

Any DK weight yarn should work well with this pattern. Choose two strongly contrasting colours for the best effect.

the camera looks down on a hat sitting next to a loaf of bread and a mug of tea. The hat and bread have a similar star design on the top.
